RILLEM
A downloadable ending
You step onto the shores of another world.
Before you sprawls an archipelago of misty isles, each scattered with odd contraptions and ancient ruins. Above it all looms a mysterious tower, its dome reflecting the golden glow of an ever-setting sun.
While most of this curious realm is unknown to you, a few facts are certain:
This place is called Rillem.
You are not alone here.
This world ends in three days, and you are already running out of time. . .
Rillem is a solo journaling/mapmaking game inspired by ‘90s puzzle games, old ruins, archipelagos, and the end of the world.
During play, the player will explore by moving their piece between cards, flipping them and responding to their prompts. As they uncover strange devices and cryptic clues while searching for the lone figure trapped within Rillem, they will make notes and drawings of their discoveries, creating a record of this world’s final days.
Time is short and Rillem is dying.
Can you solve its mysteries and escape before everything collapses?
What You'll Need
- standard deck of playing cards (jokers removed)
- something to write/draw on
- something to write/draw with
- a piece to move around the map (coin, button, pebble, small toy, etc)
- 10 tokens to track resources
- 3 long items (pens, bits of string, drawn lines, etc.) to connect isles
(If playing virtually, https://playingcards.io/ is a free site that has all the cards/tokens needed for Rillem.)

Rillem is a beautifully melancholy solo map-making journaling game about exploration, discovery, and escaping a world that is already doomed. You explore a crumbling archipelago of strange islands using playing cards, drawing maps, uncovering mysteries, and racing against a strict three-day time limit. It’s not about saving the world, it’s about documenting it, understanding it, and deciding what (or who) you take with you when you leave. The prompts are evocative, the structure is elegant, and the slow pressure of time creates real emotional weight
Perfect for solo players who enjoy journaling, light drawing, and narrative discovery over mechanics-heavy play.

Thank you so much, Turk! This is a rad review (and video)!
I saw this featured on the Cozy RPG Reviews YouTube channel today and am interested in a physical copy, but Plus One Exp is sold out. Will they be doing another print run, or are there any restrictions on the PDF that would prevent me from having it printed and bound at a local office supply store?
Plus One Exp responded to my query and updated their website with additional copies, so I'm good to go there. The digital version that was included along with the print version, though, is highly compressed and not representative of what is available here. Can I send you my order confirmation with Plus One Exp and receive access to the versions posted here?
Huh, that's the first I've heard of a file difference. I just added a few more community copies, go ahead and snag one of those :3
Awesome, thanks! The PDF that came with the PDF + Print bundle was 2.5 MB and full color only rather than also including the B&W printer-friendly version or the plain text version.
How very odd! Good to know for sure, and I'll happily give itch access to anybody else who gets it elsewhere ^w^
Hi! Glad you found me from Robin's video! As you found, Plus One Exp is doing a second print run currently and the copies are out now.
¿Habrá más Copias Comunitarias en un futuro?
¡Acabo de agregar un poco más!
Fantastic game! If you want to read an overview of it check out mine here My Solo RPG Journey: RILLEM. Overview and Character Creation and if you want to see the game in action, check this out My Solo RPG Journey: RILLEM. The search for Bastian.
This game has an amazing atmosphere. I'm impressed of how different the four islands of my game felt.
I lost at the end, the "bad omen island" of the east was a death trap. I wish the game had ways to deal with the time loses, specially when several bad events appear together. Maybe some kind of resource?
In any case this game is great. I may try another run other day to see if I can win then.
